Job loss can happen to the best of us. The following are a few tips to consider if you find yourself suddenly without a job.
1. Delay getting angry for now and perhaps for good. Your first reaction is likely to be anger, and it's normal. But acting on those feelings is not wise. Hold back from reacting to the unfortunate news with hostility. You don't want to damage your current workplace relationships. They could help you in the future.
2. Don’t take it to heart. Sometimes things happen that we cannot control. Don't take it personally. Remember, this is business. Business is not supposed to be personal.
3. Get a reference or recommendation. Getting a recommendation from your current boss is the easiest way to show a potential employer how valuable you are as an employee. Make sure your employer is okay with prospective employers contacting him on your behalf.
4. Promote yourself. Doing this effectively requires the right balance between conceit and being devoted to others. It's up to you to make sure you shine.
5. Grief is normal. You will grieve losing your job the same as you would losing anything of value in your life. However, you have to prepare to move forward
6. Maintain a positive outlook. Choose to see the glass as half full. It's possible that losing your job could lead to a greater opportunity.
