The Big Picture on Time Management (Part 2 of 2)

As an administrative assistant, effective time management requires following certain strategies. In addition to those strategies, however, there are varieties of tools that can help.

Electronic calendar

Most companies today offer an electronic calendaring system. Your calendaring system is the key to time management. When you master the use of a calendaring system, you open up all sorts of options and greatly increase your efficiency.

A shared calendar in which you can schedule events within your employer’s calendar is ideal.

Project management software

Project software, such as Microsoft Project, can help you monitor a project from its initial conception through completion. Whether this involves your own work projects or projects that involve your manager, this type of software is indispensible to manage time effectively.

PDA

Not every executive assistant must travel for work-related issues. However, if your position requires you to travel or be away from your desk, a PDA is an indispensible tool. Whether it’s a Palm Pilot, Blackberry or a different device, make sure to purchase one that can interface with your company’s e-mail, calendaring and project management software.
